I know that I barely update this thing, but I'm doing this anyway. ♥ Because I felt like it and everyone should know how special they are. So here's a list of things and people I'm thankful for:

✿ My family. I always try to be aware of the fact that I have a good relationship with my parents and my brother, and that even though my parents have separated, they've managed to stay friends and can still do holidays together. Sometimes it gets awkward or there's an incident, but other times it goes smoothly and that's always a good relief. My brother has been with his boyfriend for a while now, and said boyfriend is a great guy. They had a rough time when getting together, but things have smoothed out and they seem happy together, which I'm grateful for.

✿ My friends. I will never devalue how important my friends are to me, as it's you guys who keep me together and are supportive regardless of what happens. Having that support is always appreciated. I don't usually have rough spots, but when I do, you guys are there.

✿ My job. It's not anything close to the job that I want, but I have a job and I know how much of a blessing that is right now. I love the people that I work with and we're able to joke around and have a good time, which makes those long hours on my feet much easier to bear. And being able to have my own money to spend is such an amazing feeling.

✿ For damned. When Erin and I decided to take the plunge and make the game our own about four years ago, we had no idea that it would last for so long or become so well-known. Even to this day, I sometimes have to think back and realize that wow, we did this. And it's thanks to everyone who's ever sent an application in, who's ever decided that it was worth their time. And to those of you who've stuck with us through thick and thin, who've supported us regardless of what's happened, I am forever grateful. I look forward to working and playing with you all for as long as you'll have me.

A long list of individual shout-outs under the cut.Collapse )

If you didn't make it onto this list, it's just because I didn't have the time or energy to write something for you. Keep in mind that you're still loved; otherwise, you wouldn't be on my list! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Job hunting is still going! Got screwed over by Gamestop a little bit, but Sketchers has been a lot nicer about stuff and I got a second interview with them today. I'll know for sure about that on Monday, so I'll try to update about that once I find out.

But really, all that stuff is pretty boring, so here's a meme thing.

reply and i'll give you four fandoms. you then have to make an entry writing about your favorite character from each fandom, and why.

katharon gave me: Fullmetal Alchemist, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Supernatural, and Tales of Symphonia.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Definitely, definitely Roy Mustang. This is actually kind of funny since I went into it being pretty judgmental of him because he was so, so popular at the time. I generally am attracted to people who are associated with the element of fire for one reason or another, so I wanted to move away from my typical thing. Also, I thought that he was little more than a pretty face and a miniskirt joke at first. So when I saw the amount of depth that was put into him, far surpassing anything they did with Ed (this is my personal opinion, at least!), it kind of grabbed me. I have a thing for war stuff, so all of his Ishbal angst really struck me -- and I really enjoyed that he tried to act like this lazy colonel who never does his paperwork and chases skirts all the time when that's really just a huge cover for how determined he is. His whole promise with Hughes to aim for the top just gets me, and the way that he seeks out revenge - the fact that it pretty much drives him crazy when you get down to it - is a trait that I seem to latch onto in characters. For that reason, the manga only made me fall for him even more. I've been missing the hell out of him lately, writing-wise.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: It's funny that Alison asked this, since I've actually been watching bits and pieces of this show over again because two of my friends are going through it. But yes, that would be Sokka! For once it's not the protagonist, right? Actually, I love Aang too, but I really found myself drawn to Sokka for some reason. I mean, the obvious reason is that he's just downright amusing, but on a deeper level, I was interested by the fact that he had no ability to bend. Being the one "normal" in the group does bother him at times, but he works past that and really comes into his own by the end. Also, his sarcasm and silliness just always bring a smile to my face. Really, though? I love pretty much all the characters in A:TLA. That's what makes it such an awesome show.

Supernatural: SCREAM, why would you ask me this. It is most definitely Castiel, which is kind of odd since three seasons go by before he even shows up. Before that Sam was my favorite out of the two brothers, but I never attached to him quite as much. I loved the brothers as a unit, but then Castiel showed up and it was like a light was raining down from the heavens, lololol. In all seriousness, I was pretty perplexed by him at first: who the hell was this angel guy? But he was endearing in his own way, not to mention downright badass (this image does change some later, doesn't it?), and as I watched him become drawn to Dean and fall into a conflict of loyalties as a result, I was pretty much sold. I think the point where I really started to like him was when he has that heart-to-heart with Dean on the bench, though. :< Funny that an angel can act so human! And season 5 just took his character that much further, and so his development has just been so amazing to watch. He's a pretty unique character, I think, and I just adore him.

Tales of Symphonia: OH GOD, THIS TAKES ME BACK... way too far. I'm trying to remember who it was, but I guess I should just make a decision for now, since... yeah. LOL, I know at one point it was Zelos, actually, but looking back I find myself more drawn to Regal for some reason. I can't really say why, but he had these little moments where he stood out to me, and also... the whole fighting-with-feet thing was really neat. I would really have to replay because it's been years, and then reevaluate. I do wonder if maybe it would end up being Lloyd now. All I can say for sure is that I hate Colette. Sorry to those who are fans, but god damn. 8| Unfortunately, I don't really see myself going back to this game since Tales of the Abyss surpassed it in every way for me. I DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE, SYMPHONIA.

And that's all, folks! I'll have to go wander off and do something else now.

What's the one song that always makes you dance?

You know, it's hard to decide since there are a lot of upbeat songs that I love, but the one that immediately comes to mind is "Van Tango" by Franz Ferdinand. Listen and download here! And then dance with me.

Would you rather be cremated or buried?

Cremated. I don't know why, but I have thought about this and being buried in the ground kind of creeps me out. I don't want to get eaten by worms and stuff. And I don't want my body to rot. I'd rather get charred and then have my ashes scattered somewhere meaningful. I wouldn't mind having a marker put up somewhere, though, for people to visit if they wanted to.

You get to learn one dance during your whole life. Which do you pick?

I don't really know many specific dance names or anything, but I know that if I were going to practice a certain style of dance, it would definitely be swing. The music and the movements just look like a ton of fun, so some sort of swing dance would be it. SOMEONE TAKE CLASSES WITH ME, and we can swing each other around. ♥

If you could support as many animals as you wanted, what would you have?

Oh man. I wouldn't want too many because that would be a lot of work, but a black lab is at the top of this list. I have always wanted one, ever since I was a kid, so it's actually a goal of mine to live somewhere that allows big pets like that. Other than that? An African Grey parrot. Because I used to have one when I was younger and he was the coolest bird ever, but then he flew away by accident. 8( I've always wanted a parrot again, because they're interactive and smart and adorable. They can sit on your shoulder if you train them and they'll let you pet them on the head on under the beak and they're just amazing. As another note, some tropical fish would be cool, but the upkeep for them might be too much for me.

And, by extension of that question, what would their names be and why would you choose those names?

You know, it sounds dorky of me, but I can't help thinking that Misha would be an adorable name for a dog, so I'd probably go with that for the black lab. I'm not so sure about the parrot. My old one was named Jed, so I'd probably go with another J name for the sake of nostalgia. ;; And it would be kind of cute to name the fish after Finding Nemo characters. :>

In other news, I was woken up by a terrible pain in my side at about 10 this morning. (2.5 hours before I wanted to get up, because I stay up way too late.) It seems to have abated for the most part, but augh.

Not much else is going on! I had a temporary job for a little bit, which was nice, but now I need to find myself something else. I have another interview with Gamestop coming up this week, and am on hold with a restaurant to see if they need people. I hope at least one of them works out!

Other than that, I've just been watching Baccano! and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in my free time. I want to get back to some of my games, like Star Ocean: First Departure and Portable Ops. Soon, hopefully! OH, RIGHT, and nest was here to visit a little while ago. We went to Disneyland and to the observatory and did some other fun stuff. It was great to have her here!

I'll try to update my journal a little more frequently, but it becomes harder and harder. I FAIL AND I'M SORRY.

I think it's about time to make an update about what's going on in my life!

So, I am back home now and living with my mom at the moment since I have no real income thus far. I've been hanging out with my friends and getting back into the swing of things while job hunting and so forth. It's been going okay so far! I had an interview today for a literary magazine here. They're transitioning into a mainly digital form, but the guy in charge was very nice and I've basically got the "position." However, it's a very low-key, work from home kind of thing, but he did say I can write for the magazine if I want. There are biweekly meetings with the rest of the staff and that's about it, but it's a step in the right direction since I'll get some experience with publishing and also be able to meet people and network.

I've got another interview this coming Monday for a position that sounds a bit more structured, so we'll see if that one pans out. I imagine that interview will be more formal, so I'll just have to stay sharp and keep prepared for it. I've got another lead for an internship that would start in August if that doesn't work out, and I'll just have to keep looking. Surprisingly, Craigslist has had some interesting leads, more so than looking through classifieds -- a lot of the classifieds are for positions requiring far more experience.

And... yeah! That's the deal. It's going, I guess. Other than that, I got Portable Ops as a graduation present from my buds, and so I've played a little bit of that. I've been surprisingly busy with this stuff, though - or just distracted by friends - so I haven't had much of a chance to sit down and get through it.

Oh, and I finally have a new laptop! I went and got it two nights ago. My old Toshiba's screen died to the point that I had to hook it up to an external monitor, and the n key also refused to work, and it was just... old and slow. It lasted me through all of college, though, so it served me well. I've got an HP now, which I got for $500. It seems to be working really well so far, and it's pretty and white. I need to transfer all of my stuff from my Toshiba onto it still -- I'll probably do that tonight.

So that's what's been up with me. Other plans are to move into my brother's old room after it gets some remodeling work done on it (my brother moved out, though he still lives close) and to... get a car. Because I'm gonna need one. So we'll see how things go. I'm hoping to find some manner of work that involves getting up and going somewhere soon, since I need structure in my life, but for the moment it's been nice to chill out with my pals and stuff.

Oh, I saw Toy Story 3 and loved it! If you haven't seen it yet, you should. :<

Hope everyone's been enjoying their summer! Speaking of which, I need to get down to the beach soon.

LOOK, LOOK, I'm actually updating. I deserve a medal.

So, life has been pretty interesting lately, since I'm on the verge of graduating (June 6th!). Although, because life is cruel like that, I actually have a final the day after I graduate. There is something fundamentally wrong there. I probably won't have the chance to study for it all that much, but I've gotten to a point where I'm beyond caring.

Anyway, with all of this stuff tying up at the end of the school year, I got a shiny certificate for the internship I did and went to the launch party of the literary anthology I helped edit. My name is printed in the book and everything! So that's pretty cool.

As for the future, I'm going to start working on job stuff some more in this upcoming week. I've been told to look into getting an internship at LA Weekly, and I'm really hoping I can pull that off. Apparently people who've graduated from my same program have gone to work for them in the past, so they should have a good impression of me. It'd just be a good gig because it's a name that people know, and it's actually really close to where I'll be living. I have some other options if that doesn't pan out, but I'm going for that first.

That being said, I should have some downtime between graduating and starting some form of work, whatever it ends up being, and so I wanted to make a list of all the stuff I'd like to eventually watch/play/read:

All the new stuff I want to try out!Collapse )

That's what's coming to my head right now. That being said, I would love recommendations from you guys! If you can think of something you think I'd like that you know I haven't seen/watched/read and that isn't on this list, please comment and tell me! Anything from just tossing out a name to giving me a summary of what the series is like and linking me to pictures of the characters -- I'm curious to hear it! I can't promise I'll have the time to check it out, but I'll probably refer back to this post when I'm in the mood to check out something new. (In before Hetalia.)

Now, unfortunately, I must try to get the final paper of my undergraduate career started. Hope everyone is keeping it real. :|b

So I think it's my obligation to make a post with this icon today. I AM DOING MY BEST NOT TO FREAK OUT. I've got a busy day, so that should keep my mind off of possible doom. 8(

In other news, I've been... having a pretty stressful week. Trying to juggle these last weeks of school, trying to get a job, and this presentation I had to do for my internship are the reasons why. Things have cleared up a bit now that the week is nearing an end, but I should probably start on a paper this weekend and I really, really don't want to. Some of my whining is due to the fact that I have this weird head cold. I developed a sore throat over the weekend and then had had cough that lasted a few days. Now that's gone and my nose is just stuffed and running. It's nothing serious, but it leads to me feeling tired faster than usual by the end of the day, which makes it hard to stay focused.

My immune system is going to beat the crap out of it soon, though -- I just know it. :E

In other news, I am going to a fair this Saturday! The Santa Barbara fair, predictably. I'm also thinking I'll be going home next weekend for both Iron Man 2 and Mother's Day, so that'll be a lot of fun. Other than that, I'm just going through the motions with school, trying not to fall too far into senioritis, and also trying not to have a heart attack over my approaching graduation. It's fun!

So that this episode isn't pointless for non-Supernatural fans: I'm skipping town tomorrow to head up to San Francisco with evildrew so that we can meet up with endless_abyss! Plans are to go to some kind of festival, see Kick Ass, and hang out. The plans came together kind of randomly so I keep forgetting about it.

I've been reading The Silence of the Lambs for my class and thoroughly enjoying it! The writing itself isn't particularly special (it's a bit heavy-handed at times) but the content is good enough and you can imagine the sort of research that must have gone into it. And Lecter is a fascinating character. Amusingly enough, I always leave my Cannibalism class hungry because it's from 5:00-6:15. :( I can't help it, we talk about eating the whole damn time.

OKAY, on to the main event: Supernatural 518, 'The Point of No Return'Collapse )
