you are employing a double negative, sir.
Okay, I have to share this because it is probably the cutest thing I have ever seen, no joke. You don't really need any prior knowledge whatsoever other than the fact that Kirk and Spock had been separated for a while before this.

THEY ARE SO AMAZING, THESE TWO. I am a convert, I think.

Additionally, this here picture makes my life. I'd like to just go ahead and admit right now that I find forty-odd-years-ago Shatner hot. KIND OF ASHAMED, but it can't be helped. It, uhh, doesn't help that pinstrip suits are kind of a kink of mine.

As should be obvious at this point, I am getting dragged into the land of Star Trek: The Original Series. THIS IS ALL [info]nest's FAULT. I have seen three full episodes (with plans to see all of it eventually), watched way too many clips on YouTube, and scoured devart for both TOS and 09 fanart. How did my life end up like this.

In other news, I bought this month's ガンガン (the monthly publication that Fullmetal Alchemist chapters come out in) because the free item that came with it was a Fullmetal Alchemist pencil case. AWWWW YEAH. It is red and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had Ling on it. No Hughes, Kimbley, Greed, or Havoc, though. But man, I am way too excited for something like this. Honestly, this stuff is made for Japanese middle school boys to buy and then show off to all their friends so that they all go buy it too -- and here I am, a 20-year-old college student getting all psyched about a pencil case.

Life is strange.

Lastly, BRB GOING TO TOKYO. The whole gang (aka [info]evildrew, [info]endless_abyss, [info]lacidiana, and [info]pandaheero) is coming to visit me and to sightsee, so I'm going with [info]nest to meet up with them there. VERY MUCH EXCITED FOR THIS, it has been too long without my nakama. :(

I LOVE THAT SCENE SO MUCH, OH MY GOD. In the Prime Reality, Kirk/Spock are OTP for life. Still, I side with Kirk/McCoy in the Alternate Reality. I just can't get over the epic bromance. *waves Karl/Chris flag*

Dude, I was totally ignorant before seeing the movie, but I've been trying to catch up now and oh my god, they are amazing. I can see why people are digging Kirk/McCoy in the Alternate Reality and I've seen some good fic for it around, but for some reason I gravitated toward Kirk and Spock nonetheless.

Though McCoy and Spock have some pretty damn epic interaction in TOS, too. I want to see more of that in any following movies that will hopefully be made.

It's cool, bb. They certainly don't compete with each other, especially since in TOS Kirk/Spock is pretty much The Word of God, and in AU, Kirk/McCoy has been accepted as canon by the majority of the slash fandom (since it runs in direct parallel to Spock/Uhura, and I tend to think both pairings exist because of the other, but that's a topic for another day). Both K/S and K/M, in both realities, are shipped for the same reason: Spock and McCoy serving as the grounding force in Kirk's life.

And definitely, more Spock/McCoy interaction in the next film. The bickering and casual racism is just so delightful, :D

Yeah, I'd like to think that people would be more mature than that. Different strokes and all that. I do kind of wish they had given more explanation to the Spock/Uhura pairing, though. I mean, it's fine if they wanted to do it, but considering Spock's a Vulcan (well, half, but mainly identifying with Vulcan), it seemed kind of flippant to just toss him into a romance like that. I like Uhura a lot, too, so I think it would have done both of their characters a better service if they'd dealt with it better. Maybe they'll address it in the next movie, although how they're going to do that and work toward making Kirk and Spock epic BFFs is going to be kind of tricky.

HAHAHA, it really is. They just troll each other left and right and I love it.

Agreed on the S/U issues. They could've done better with it, but at the end of the day, I'm kind of okay with it? The addition of S/U and K/M entirely changes the K/S dynamic in the new film. While it forever alters Kirk's relationship with Spock, it opens the door to exploring their relationships with other characters, allowing them to create meaningful, life-long connections with their respective friends/partners, rather than just having each other.

I can see Kirk and Spock as becoming good friends in time, but I don't think they're going to have the same deep, life-spanning connection that they have in TOS, simply because the situation surrounding their friendship has changed. Then again I've written like, whole long-winded dissertations over at [info]kirk_mccoy on the differences in shipping and fandom-reaction in TOS v. AU, so, uh, yeah. I've kinda had time to think about this crap, :B

BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, all fangirls sail ships. We're like one big happy fleet ♥

Kinda bugs me that they didn't address the whole betrothal thing with Spock, since... that would probably still be in place? I dunno, it kinda smacks of them making a romance because they felt the need to, which is a shame since it compromises the characters. Yes, this Spock is different, but... still kind of a stretch for me.

Hahaha, it's definitely interesting to think about. I'd personally be pretty disappointed if they didn't become best friends, especially since Spock Prime went to great lengths to see that it happened. TOS seems to emphasize in a few places how they would be friends no matter what happened, so I kinda think that includes alternate universes. OR SO I WOULD LIKE TO THINK.

But... YOU KIND OF GET THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS if you ship different things in different universes, so. ♥

Aww, happy fleet indeed. That's a good way to think of it. Also, your icon is amazing, ffff.

I love Spock Prime. Scooting around the universe promoting bromance. Weee ♥

And I'm all for Kirk and Spock being best friends in AU. Totally. As long as Kirk goes home to McCoy at the end of the day I'm a happy camper, :D With the touchy let's-go-stand-together-at-all-times-and-look-dazzling thing they had going on.

Yeah, that... I'm admittedly really really shallow about TV series/movies, and there's just so little "good" things in TOS for me that they don't really make up for the things that put me off. I've tried, really! D8

Oh, yeah, I MIGHT SEE HOW IT WOULD PUT PEOPLE OFF. Or maybe not be worth it. I had this image of TOS that it was downright horrible and had no redeeming qualities so I've been... pleasantly surprised so far. You might be better off just watching some youtube clips that they've got up since there's some pretty amusing stuff floating around.

Yes, yes it is. They did an awesome job with it.

Yeah, once I saw the movie I knew that I was going to want to see where it all came from. 8D And yeah, Kirk/McCoy is definitely the new big thing, but for some reason my heart was with Kirk/Spock even though I watched it with almost zero knowledge of TOS. My computer and youtube are very rarely friends anymore. Lately it does this wonderful thing where I get the sound, but the video lags about 30-50 seconds behind. So I can watch short videos, on occasion, but entire episodes of anything? Nope.

But I do really want to see the original. I liked TNG as a kid, but it never even crossed my mind to watch the original until now. I think I'll probably still like the new canon more, for various reasons. (One of which may or may not be Chris Pine's pretty face.) BUT. I still really want to see it.

I want to see the new movie again, as well, because OBVIOUSLY THREE TIMES ISN'T ENOUGH? orz

Youtube doesn't run very well on my computer either. KIND OF SUCKS, but yeah, I can manage short clips usually.

I watched a good amount of TNG in high school, but yeah, that's about all I had. Like, new canon definitely rocks and it totally pulled me in and that movie was just so well done, but the thing about TOS is that there's just so much more of it. Because it's so extensive you get some really fun scenes... like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy out camping in the woods. 8D With new canon I feel like things are just getting started and I want moooore. So I feed my need with TOS, and it's been fun so far.

HAHA, I've seen it... twice, but movies are expensive in Japan. D:

I REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT MOVIE, ARGH. Movies take so loooooooooooooong. I hate waiting, too, so I definitely get where you're coming from.

Until I manage to d/l the old series or get a new computer (hopefully in August), I'll just have to content myself with burying myself in fanworks. I can't remember the last time I cared about a fandom enough to read this much fic.

Yes. You must see ALL the episodes. Especially The Trouble with Tribbles, City on the Edge of Forever, A Piece of the Action (I think you saw that one), and a number of the first season's episodes. Though The Enemy Within was bad science, I thought it had some good philosophy there. And... Oh! Naked Time. MUST SEE.

And for sheer camp value, Spock's Brain and Plato's Stepchildren (but ready the brain bleach for one scene with Kirk... playing horsie... >.> ). They're both godawful, but lots of fun if you don't overthink them. Oh, and The Way to Eden... Spock and an alien chick play this ga-roo-vah duet on his Vulcan lute and her old bicycle wheel "guitar." X3
