So I'm kinda sorta tossing around the idea of getting a Sony PSP.

IS THIS A GOOD IDEA, FLIST? Give me your thoughts! I'm not even sure how feasible it is, but I've been tempted lately. There are a good amount of games for it that I would want, and I don't think I'll be getting a PS3 anytime soon, so...

Anyway! ADVICE PLZ. Either for or against it. 8D

I'm actually sorely tempted to get one, myself. There's a bundle at Gamestop where they're selling a silver psp-3000 with a 2b gb memory card, dissidia, and the AC umd for $200. Could care less about AC being with it, but it's not a bad deal HAHAHA. problem is they don't ship until the end of August because Dissidia isn't out.

BUT YEAH. I figure if you'll actually use it, why the hell not? 8D;

I saw that pack when I was looking up the prices and stuff online! I think if I get one I want to get one in Japan because they are slightly cheaper, sorta, and also... cool colors. 8D;; KINDA WANT A RED ONE, MAYBE. Or... I dunno. But yeah, the games are region free, so it wouldn't be a problem. The, uhh, movies aren't, but I really am not planning to watch anything on my PSP, so.

True! 8D At first I was sorta like "meh" because I didn't care about most of the games coming out on it, but now it's like... Crisis Core, Dissidia, Birth by Sleep, Star Ocean, Portable Ops...

Lots of stuff. <_<;; KIND OF WANT.

I say yes. I have one, and it's a really neat, little system. For example. You can switch the off switch, and when you flip it back on, you're right where you left off in a game. Handy if you need to go and don't see a save point anywhere.

Anyways, there's more to it, but I love my PSP. A good investment, in my opinion.

Oh, yeah, I knew about that since I've played on my friend's PSP and stuff! That is very handy.

They're really not that expensive anymore, which is why I started to get interested. :3

I say yes :) If you can find a place that sells them for a reasonable price, why not? Like [info]leaute said, you can pick up right where you left off in the game as long as you don't exit it first :D I don't really use it much (I can't finish Crisis Core, I just CAN'T) but it's still nice to have just in case you want to play any other games they might have for it.

Yeah, I've realized that there are a good amount of games for it, and I really don't think the price is so bad anymore, which is why it's getting more and more tempting. Plus, I do want to finish Crisis Core and I can't keep borrowing my friend's system. 8D;

Not owning one myself, I probably shouldn't be offering you advice. XD I haven't been overly impressed with the PSP, or really Sony in general at the moment. But heck, there are a lot of cool games on it, that I will admit. And if you're going to play it, I'd say it's probably worth it.

Yeah, Sony hasn't been dazzling me either, but some good games have come out on the system, so. :| I will have to think on this one for a while. DX

Yeah, I had the same feeling, and caved and got one. System only, I figure I'll pick up the memory card and whatnot when I get back, but so far it's been pretty useful. You can browse the internet on it, which has been nice since my laptop isn't very portable, and it's got Skype on it (need a memory card for that, but most sane people would have gotten one already :P)

I got the Carnival colors blue one. 8D The red one was also tempting. They're so pretty over here orz. I just kind of stare at it and it makes me happy.

Oh, whoa, it has Skype on it? That's pretty cool. I actually already have a memory stick since I had to buy one to play my friend's system, so I'd be pretty set there.

Heee, they are pretty! I've seen some people with them and been very impressed. *__*

There's an icon on my menu that says "Skype" so yeah, looks like it has Skype preloaded. :D Really wishing I had the memory stick, but since I'm low on funds I'm trying to cut down on getting things that I can get just as easily at home, so it'll be a little bit before I'm able to fully fiddle around with it as much as I want.

I always wonder why the really awesome colors never seem to come to America. :(

I am here to bring logic!

If there are three games you really want on the PSP, get it. But if there are more than three you really want on PS3, save the PSP money for a PS3 instead.

\\//_ Live long and prosper.

Well, like, I can't really save up money all that much. This would probably have to count as an early birthday gift (or "you survived Japan!" gift) from my parents or something. MEH.

This depends on whether or not you want Japanese games or American games. If you want the American releases, wait until you go back to America to get one because the PSP is not regionless as far as I know and it's near impossible to hack a handheld like you can a console.

Otherwise, if you want the Japanese games, then go for it. I don't really see a downside since if you buy this now and wait for the PS3 to lower its price, then you can get both eventually. |D

Actually, it turns out it is regionless! That's why I started thinking about it. Because Jansen has a Japanese PSP and she can play American games on it just fine. The only thing you can't do is watch movies on it, which I wouldn't have been planning to do anyway.

The PSP is not only regionless, but has TONS of "homebrew" software. It is very easy to hack, and is well known for this ability. :x

I love my PSP. It's a very well rounded system. If I had a choice, I'd play all my handheld games on my PSP because I still am not and doubt I ever will be a big fan of the DS.

I actually just traded in my old PSP and upgraded to the newer model, though your guess is as good as mine as to why... I'm seeing no drastic differences between the two. I wanted to be able to hook up my PSP to my television and play PSP games on the big screen, but I cannot figure out how for the life of me. Stupid remote play.

I actually really love the DS and wasn't interested in the PSP all that much for a while, but now it's got quite a few games I'm interested in.

Ohhh, that would be cool if you could do that! I hope you can figure it out.

To do remote play you need to have a component cable and a TV that's capable of...god, what's it called, the like quick refresh thing? Progressive scan, I think? Otherwise the game on the TV screen will lag behind what you're doing on the handheld.

You can also hook up the PSP to a PS3 to do the same thing~

the really weird thing is that i own more games than the one i played, but i just never play them LOL ;; like i'm a diehard MGS fan but i still haven't played mgs portable ops or mgs ac!d and i've owned daxter for a long time but i haven't played more than 10 minutes of it. i don't really know why either, it's not like it's any harder than my ds to take around, but i just keep ignoring the poor thing :|

My PSP is literally my best electronic friend. It goes EVERYWHERE with me. It's my mp3 player, I can browse the internet with it, I can watch movies (both UMD and MPEG-4 episodes of stuff) on it, I can change the wallpaper to anything I want, and yes, I can play games on it, too. I have the PSP-1000 series, the old "fat" one, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's my baby. ♥

I have to say, I've barely played any games for it. It's not that there isn't good stuff OUT there -- FF Tactics, Crisis Core, Silent Hill Origins, MGS Portable Ops, etc. -- but I've bought a lot of them and then ended up not playing them. D: which is more a problem with me than with the system. If you ARE going to hack it, you can emulate virtually anything (I had a friend who was running Doom 64 on it!) so you have a nearly infinite library of choices. More than anything, the games I play are ones like Lumines and Ultimate Block Party (a tetris ripoff), which are both just puzzle games, and are great for when I'm stuck waiting somewhere like a doctor's office.

I love my PSP to fucking death, oh my god. ♥♥♥♥ To put this in perspective, my DS literally has dust on it. It's been sitting on my desk since... uh, since like September of 2008 when I stopped playing Trials & Tribulations. 8D;

Oh, I didn't realize it could function as an MP3 player. That's another good perk, then! Or... do you have to pay extra for that and the internet service?

Haha, I know how it is to buy games and not play them, but... yeah, there are a lot that I'm interested in.

I actually love my DS to itty bitty pieces, but I'm kind of wondering if I should add a PSP to my system family. *__*

Nope, it's free! MP3 function is built-in, internet function is built in, you just have to have access to some kind of WiFi spot.

Yep, pretty much. I have a 1GB (that came with my system when I bought a bundle) and a 2GB, but they've released ones up to 16GB, I think.
